THE FISH AREN’T SICK, THE WATER’S DIRTY.

That's the best description I've heard recently of what's happening in many organisations right now.

Not a performance problem. Not a talent problem. An environment problem.

Times of structural and cultural change are incredibly challenging, and a lot of people will ‘just keep on keeping on,’ but you can see it if you know where to look. It's not in the engagement survey. It's in the conversations at the coffee shop. The casual chats about what the company stands for these days. A scan of LinkedIn jobs, just in case. The low-grade unease that nobody quite names but everyone feels.

In regulated environments, that unease isn't just a culture problem. It's a risk problem.

This is where most organisations reach for more communication. More updates, more town halls, more carefully worded messages from leadership. And most of it lands like a stone in a pond. A brief ripple, then nothing.

What actually changes the environment tends to be something more immersive. A moment that cuts through the noise and gives people a shared experience to connect with.

That’s where the right kind of experience comes in, something that not only shares and reinforces important information but is cultural magic, because it lets people know they're the critical ingredient to success.

Two years after one transformational event we created, more than 85% of surveyed employees still said they understood the company’s purpose, strategy and culture. Not just that they were aware of it, but that they genuinely understood it.

That kind of clarity changes how an organisation behaves.

When people know what the organisation is for, decision-making improves, momentum builds more easily, and resilience increases when pressure hits.

There is growing evidence behind this. Harvard Business Review has highlighted how weak ties and spontaneous interactions decline in remote settings, while sectors like pharma and finance are increasingly treating culture as a component of risk management.

Bringing people together, then, is so much more than morale boosting or pushing up engagement scores. It is about creating the conditions that allow everything else to work properly.
