Making the Impossible Possible for a US Biotech
The situation
This US Biotech had built something genuinely new.
Their POSH platform - Pooled Optical Screening in Human cells - uses an unbiased automated robotic lab to screen thousands of genes at scale while preserving the detail of human biology. It captures subtle, holistic changes that conventional methods miss, revealing therapeutic targets that would otherwise go undiscovered.
The science was rigorous and the potential was real. But communicating it clearly was a different problem entirely.
The film they needed had to do three things simultaneously: satisfy scientists who would scrutinise every claim, inspire a broader audience with no specialist background, and articulate clear value to potential investors. Most films optimise for one of those audiences and lose the other two.
What we did
Before we wrote a word of script, we spent time with their scientists - not to simplify what they'd built, but to understand it well enough to find the clearest possible way to explain it.
The answer was animation. Not because the subject was too abstract for live footage, but because animation gave us the precision to show exactly what the POSH platform does - using metaphor and real-world applications to make the mechanism visible and the implications tangible.
The result was a film that didn't ask specialist and non-specialist audiences to meet in the middle. It brought the science to them - on their terms, without losing accuracy.
The result
The film was timed to coincide with the release of a much-anticipated scientific paper, running across multiple communications channels and events. It generated significant engagement on LinkedIn - hundreds of reactions, shares and comments from an audience that does not engage lightly with content that doesn't earn it.
For a highly technical biotech communicating to one of the most sceptical audiences in the industry, that response is the signal that matters.
